Transparent sea creatures?

These are transparent sea creatures! Strange, right? The biggest one is a pelagic octopus, second biggest is a roundbelly cowfish, third biggest is a hydromedusa, fourth biggest is a jellyfish and the last is a comb jelly.

BIG time!

Heard of the giant squid legend? Take a look at these unbelievable pictures! It is real! The giant squid is a true monster! It's main predator is the sperm whale. They can grow up to 13 meters long! If they can, they usually battle with sperm whales to survive. They usually stay in the deep sea, so they rarely come to the surface. But watch out! Sharks and well, giant squids can come to you if you hear that Jaws music playing! And watch out for money-eating clams!

Another species

This fish is another species of anglerfish, Borophryne apogon. It looks funny, not scary! If you look closely, you can see a small male anglerfish attached to the larger female.

Ugly but cute

This ugly fish is the blobfish. It has lack of muscles, that means it can not really swim, so it has a special way of finding food. It just floats in the water, waiting for something edible to pass by... This fish is what I call ''really disgusting''.

Frilled shark

The deep water frilled shark is a prehistoric shark which is very rarely seen. The frilled shark looks like a brown eel and weirder, it has three points on one tooth. The frilled shark is named because it has frills on it gills. It feeds on soft-bodied prey, such as squid and small fish. Believe it has six gills instead of five! Sorry, I have the same picture twice but please don't bother about it.

The anglerfish!

This is the anglerfish. It is scary right? But look at the rod on its head! It is called a lure. Bacteria living in the lure makes the lure glow. This helps it to attract prey or even a mate. The anglerfish male is about 20 times smaller than the female! What is weird? To mate, the male anglerfish uses special teeth and cling on to the belly of the female. Then, it stays there for the rest of its life. On the fourth picture, can you see the male circled in red? The hairy angler species (below) has hair like things. It detects the movement of prey.

Other chimaera species!

The chimaeras are related to sharks. This species, elephantfish chimaera, is another weird one. Unlike the longnose, it has a curved snout! The other one has no snout and called the ratfish chimaera. It is kinda rarely seen in deep waters.

The scary deep sea dragonfish

The deep sea dragonfish is the top predator of the abyss. The scaly dragonfish has a luminous rod on its chin. The rod attracts prey and when the prey comes close, it snaps it with its very powerful jaws. Fact: Some species of dragonfish have extendable jaws!
